A short retrospect of the 50´s albums listen to

Wow, I am done with the 50´s albums!
Time for a little retrospect!

I learned that Jazz, what I have never heard before, can be pretty cool, as long it isn´t vocal jazz.

Rock n Roll isn´t enough on this list. It was the music of people stand up against racial segregation and said: „Doesn´t matter what your skin color is, as long as your music is cool!“ and came together. I think thats a big achievement.

Albums I owned: 1 Little Richard – Here´s Little Richard

Artis on this list from which I owned other albums: 2 Buddy Holy – The Collection

Ray Charles – The Collection

Albums I think shouldn´t be on this list: 11 (47,83%)

In The Wee Small Hours – Frank Sinatra

Songs For Swingin‘ Lovers – Frank Sinatra

Tragic Songs Of Life – The Louvin Brothers

Palo Congo – Sabu

This is Fats Domino – Fats Domino

Dance Mania – Tito Puente

Lady in Satin – Billie Holiday

Live at Mister Kelly’s – Sarah Vaughan

George Gershwin Songbook – Ella Fitzgerald

Gunfighter Ballads And Trail Songs – Marty Robbins

The Genius of Ray Charles – Ray Charles

Albums I think that should be included:
Chuck Berry – Chuck Berry is on top

Eddie Cochran – Singing to my baby

Bo Diddley – Self titled debut

Bill Haley – Rock with Bill Haley and the Comets

Bill Haley – Shake, Rattle and Roll

Bill Halley – Rock around the Clock

Frank Sinatra – Songs for swinging lovers (1956)

After „In the wee small hours“ was an disappointment of an album Sinatra get a second change to convience me to his music. „Songs for swinging lovers“ is as the title tells us a swing concept-album which he arranges with the conductor Nelson Riddle.

In total the album contains the work of nearly 3 years. It contains coverversions of songs from 1923 – 1947.
Instruments used on the album, besides Sinatras vocals are: Trumpet, trombone, valve, basstrombone, altsax, tenorsax, baritonsax, clarinett, violin, viola, cello, harp, piano, guitar, bass, drum and percussion.

Since I also never heard swing I am also excited to hear the album, so the requirements are the same like on the other Sinatra album.

The mood is much happier and more lighted than on his other album. But also it´s very vocaldominated and after the second song I just want it to be over.
From Make Whoopee! to the next to last song it becomes all more dynamic and so more interessting to listen to. The last song then again is tough like chewing gum and let the album seem endless.

A bit better than „In the wee small hours“ but also not worth the time to listen to it. Boring and dummy. Maybe only an album for swinging lovers.

Frank Sinatra – In the wee small hours (1955)

I have to say that I love the cover of this album on first sight. I am also very excited to listen to this album because I never listened to Jazz before.

The album was recorded in 1955 and was one of the first concept albums. Sinatra sings about the divorce from his wife earlier.

The atmosphere of the album is melancholic and the weather outside right now also – its raining and windy and lightning strikes. Just like the weather and the album had a deal to start simultaneous.

The vocals of Sinatra are dominant on the whole album the rhythms are easy and the instruments are in the background.  I don´t like that, it bores me and I am questioning myself the whole time when the album will end finally.
The best parts of the album are when the instruments could play a bit without the voice of Sinatra, like the Stringsolo in „In the wee small hours in the morning“ or the beginning of each song, especially in the songs from „When your lover has gone“ to „Last night when we were young“

All in all this album is deadly boring. The atmosphere doesn´t touch me anywhere and I also don´t care for the lyrics because I live in an healthy relationship.

If you´re not a fan of male vocalists and albums that are laid-out on the vocals I wouldn´t recommend you to listen to it. It´s just a waste of time. When you´re a fan of male vocalists you will allready know this album.
